The Straumar junction pool is where the Nordura river meets the Hvita glacial river. The fishing stretch itself is approximately 1 km long with six marked pools, but the whole beat can be described as almost one continuous fishable run. Most of the fish hold at the seam where the Hvita glacial water and the clear water flowing from the Nordura river meet.
The Straumar is fished with only two rods so every angler has plenty of space. It has been very popular with salmon anglers in previous years.
On the first day of fishing anglers may arrive at the lodge at 3 pm. Up on departure anglers are kindly asked to leave no later than 1 pm. Please familiarize your self with fishing rules upon arrival.

At the Straumar junction pool anglers are provided with two well-equipped and comfortable self-catering cabins located on the river bank adjacent to the main pool. The main cabins was built in 1930 by English anglers and is one of the two oldest and best-known fishing lodges in Iceland. A big part of the Straumar charm is staying at this old and historic fishing lodge.
The lodges are made up of four twin-bedded bedrooms. The main cabin has a living room and a good kitchen, with a sheltered veranda and an outdoor grill. The lodge provides duvets but guests have to bring their own linen. Please familiarize yourself with house rules and fishing rules upon arrival.
Fully-made up beds and cleaning service for the cabins can be provided upon request at an extra cost. Please contact Axel and Elisabet by e-mail: thrifstraumar@gmail.com or call: +354 866 7733.

Yes, disinfection must be carried out by a veterinarian from the country of embarkation and a certificate of disinfection presented to local custom officer upon arrival to Iceland. If a certificate cannot be obtained, the fishing equipment must be handed to customs officers upon entering the country for immediate disinfection at owner’s expense
Alternatively, rental gear and tackle can be arranged with sufficient notice. Flies can also be purchased to be ready upon arrival.
We kindly ask our guests to adhere to the check in schedules specified here on the website or in the brochures in order for our staff to be able to adequately prepare the lodge for your arrival.
In Iceland English is widely spoken by the locals and can be referred to as a second language.
The Straumar beat is very easily reachable from the bank and minimal wading is required.
Although both is possible and it is ultimately up to the angler, we reccomend double handed rods on the Straumar.
