The junction pool of the Norðurá and Hvítá rivers in West-Iceland is called Straumar. Around 300 salmon are caught on the Straumar beat annually, on only two rods, in addition to a good number of sea trout. The Straumar has for a long time been a popular fishing beat for families and smaller groups.

The Straumar junction pool is where the Nordurá River joins the Hvítá glacial river. The fishing stretch itself is approximately 1 km long with six marked pools, but the whole beat can be described as almost one continuous fishable run. Most of the fish hold at the seam where the clear water flowing from the Nordurá River and the Hvítá glacial water meet.
The Straumar is fished by only two rods, so every angler has plenty of space. The beat has been very popular with salmon anglers for many years. On the first day of fishing, anglers may arrive at the lodge at 3 pm. After the last morning anglers are asked kindly to leave no later than 1 pm. Please familiarize yourself with fishing rules upon arrival.
At the Straumar junction pool anglers are provided with two well-equipped and comfortable self-catering cabins located on the river bank adjacent to the main pool. The main cabin was built in 1930 by English anglers and is one of the two oldest and best-known fishing lodges in Iceland. A big part charm of the Straumar is staying at this old and historic fishing lodge, which has recently been fully renovated.
The lodge sleeps eight guests in four twin-bedded bedrooms. The main cabin has a living room and a good kitchen, with a sheltered veranda and an outdoor grill and a Finnish sauna. The lodge is serviced at all times with made-up beds and cleaning of the cottage upon departure. Please familiarise yourself with house rules and fishing rules on arrival. Fishing guides and a full catering service can be provided on request.
Disinfection of fishing tackle by a veterinarian prior to entry to Iceland is no longer a requirement. Your tackle can now be disinfected on arrival at the lodge, before you start fishing.
