Flókadalsá in West-Iceland is a three-rod salmon river that has some of the best average catches per rod of any Icelandic river; the average catch is over 500 salmon per summer. As a result, the river has enjoyed great popularity amongst anglers. The fishing area is about 17 km long and the salmon can run even higher up into the fertile heathlands. There are almost 60 marked fishing spots in the “Flóka”, as the river is known, and they are quite diverse.
On the lowest beat the river flows through a short canyon with several good fishing spots, where salmon often gather in fast runs and on deep flats below rapids. In other areas the flow is slower, with exciting pools along some high banks and runs in the most beautiful valley. The water is very clear and the flow is quite even throughout the season, being partly spring-fed. Access to most of the pools is easy and the valley is renowned for its seclusion and privacy.
The lodge is close to the river and was built two decades ago. It will be fully renovated for the 2026 season. The lodge has three double bedrooms. The lodge is well equipped with a good living room, as well as facilities for drying waders in the anteroom and, around the house, is a terrace with a barbecue and a hot tub. Three new spacious bedrooms will be built and in service by 2027.
All of our guides are English speaking, are highly experienced fishermen and have been guiding anglers for many years.
Disinfection of fishing tackle by a veterinarian prior to entry to Iceland is no longer a requirement. Your tackle can now be disinfected on arrival at the lodge, before you start fishing.
